S. Bülent Sancar Turkish, b. 1973

"Follow your dreams; they know the way. I start by dreaming and sometimes; I draw them and sometimes there is no drawing at all and I start sculpting directly. Everything else is technical issues after that. If my dreams are reflected in what I create and satisfy me then my sculpture is finished and I am ready for the new dreams."

S. Bülent Sancar graduated from the Marmara Faculty of Fine arts /Ceramic and Glass division with a degree as the 3rd honorary student which he started in 1996. Until 2012 he worked as a design and brand manager in Kale company. By using ceramics and composite/resin the artist creates large-scale abstract sculptures, ideas behind which are inspired by the sea.

One of the most famous exhibitions is “We Kiln the Sea”; it was presented under the water in Bodrum, Turkey. In 2005 his ceramic sculpture “Octopus” from this collection is chosen as a cover photo for the Dutch monthly magazine “Keramiek”. He was the first Turkish artist ever accomplishing this success. “Angel Fish” ceramic artwork which he created for the same collection is chosen among many pieces to be gifted to Mr. Rahmi Koc on his way back from sailing around the world with his sailboat Nazanin.

ATLANTIS is another breathtaking series of Bulent's sculptures. The artist has been sketching different shapes for many years. Once he came across a documentary about Atlantis: the lost island Atlantis was described to be in the middle of the Aegean sea and got lost under gigantic tsunami waves. The lost land and the sketches he drew before were so close in shapes so that the artist realized a strong connection between his art and the lost oceanic myth.

"Follow your dreams; they know the way," the artist said. I start by dreaming and sometimes; I draw them and sometimes there is no drawing at all and I start sculpting directly. Everything else is technical issues after that. If my dreams are reflected in what I create and satisfy me then my sculpture is finished and I am ready for the new dreams."
