Kadir Akyol Turkey, b. 1984
Akyol uses portraiture as a starting point to explore classical themes in a contemporary way. This series is inspired by Greek sculpture and Roman gods and goddesses: Athena, Hermes, Hercules, David, and Aphrodite who were seen as perfect, almost superhuman figures. This series examines the ancient ideal of perfectionism and how these myths reflect humanity’s ongoing desire to rise above the ordinary. The artworks feature these figures layered with delicate floral patterns, combining historical references with modern techniques to create images that feel both timeless and relevant.
