Inspired by footage of the 1981 assassination attempt on U.S. President Ronald Reagan, Banksy’s 'I Fought the Law' reimagines the scene by replacing the gunman with a graffiti artist. A dropped paintbrush in place of a gun lies beside him, while the phrase “I Fought the Law and I Won” is scrawled in bold orange paint across the wall behind. Referencing the 1979 Clash song of the same name, the work offers a provocative, anti-authoritarian commentary on the criminalisation of street art and the aggressive response of law enforcement. However, despite being caught, Banksy suggests the artist has already won, as his message is already on the wall.

Accompanied by a certificate of authenticity issued by Pest Control Office.
