The series titled "Dance Movements" encompasses all of Rodin's investigations and explorations. In this series, the sculptor employed combinations of elements to convey the body's tensions, devising daring poses that incorporate the interplay of emptiness and solidity, balance and imbalance. Rodin's artistic ingenuity was dedicated to expressing the vitality and life force inherent in the body, showcasing its energy, strength, and equilibrium. This mirrors the essence of dance, which delves into the body's connection with space and weightlessness, achieved through extension, flexibility, and the unrestricted flow of lines.

To achieve the depiction of ongoing movement in his sculptures, Auguste Rodin closely observed dancers. This particular bronze sculpture was created based on a sketch that he quickly modeled in clay while watching a live dancer perform in his studio. The figure's seemingly impossible pose was the outcome of Rodin's experimental attempts to merge multiple sequential postures into a single form.
