As a cub, he has an extremely outgoing and playful nature. He always seeks out adventure and danger to become as brave and strong as his father Mufasa.
But after his father died and he meets his best friends Timon & Pumbaa, he adopts the "Hakuna Matata" philosophy of life, which he lives by from then on. He desperately wants to leave his past behind and takes the life as it is, no longer really seriously.
Only when his childhood sweetheart and future wife Nala shows up, does his past catch up with him.It makes him think and he seeks peace until he finally follows in his father's footsteps, as he had longed to do as a child. I have often wished to make a lion portrait worthy of bearing the name of the young king in the Circle of Life - I believe this picture is it: Rule with justice and vision, new king!
