Robert Strati is an American contemporary artist known for transforming broken porcelain plates into intricate mixed-media artworks that explore movement, memory, and renewal. Through his signature Fragmented series, Strati reconstructs shattered ceramics into dynamic compositions where birds, ships, landscapes, and natural forms emerge from the original patterns and negative spaces of the porcelain, transforming accidental destruction into elegant sculptural narratives.
The inspiration for Strati’s practice began when a treasured porcelain plate inherited from his wife’s mother was accidentally broken. Rather than discarding the fragments, Strati discovered the potential within the shattered pieces, imagining the decorative imagery extending beyond the surface of the plate into three-dimensional space. Born in Boston in 1970 and raised in Columbus, Ohio, Strati developed his artistic foundation through studying Art History at Ohio State University.
